MVA MICROMETER ADJUST SCALE

This scale is adjustable in .001″ increments by loosing the knurled lock screw on the side, rotating the adjusting ring to the desire setting, and then tightening the lock screw. This scale measures .500″ outside diameter with a 7/16″ inside diameter. It is adjustable from 9 grains to approximately 125 grains of FFg powder. Some volume variation may occur when using different granulations and brands of powder.

I bought this scale for use in my vintage Belding & Mull powder measure for charging larger capacity smokeless powder cases. The scale is well made and nicely marked on the slide and the micrometer adjust knob and easy to read. I like the markings much better than what are on my original B&M micrometer drop tube. I will likely use the MVA scale exclusively for all my powder measuring since it is better marked and easier to read than my original B&M drop tube.

Since the O.D. of the MVA scale measures exactly 0.500″, to use it in my vintage B&M measure I had to machine down the outside diameter of the tube a few thousandths of an inch for it to readily fit in the bore of the B&M measure which also exactly measured 0.500″. This was an easy process with a metal lathe, but might be harder to do if one does not have access to a lathe.

I really like this micrometer charge tube. I bought it for my original B&M powder measure. I use it with smokeless powder for my Schuetzen Rifles. It has much more capacity than I need. I only use 11 to 15 grains of powder, but it is very repeatable. Perhaps MVA will consider making a shorter version for such use.

Unlike the original B&M tube, I finally can readjust the measure for a different setting, predetermined with a powder scale, and get the correct charge weight. Unlike what a previous reviewer found, this tube fit my B&M measure with no alterations necessary. My tube measured .4975″, not .500″, so maybe MVA made a slight change since then.

I did find it hard to read the graduations on the slide because there is no real contrast in the markings on the slide. The graduations on the knurled lock nut are easy to read. I solved the slide marking issue by running over the flat marked surface on the slide with a black marker. Then lightly sanding that surface removed all the black ink except for the graduations and numbers. I can see it easily now.

All in all, well worth the price. Well made.
